Iverson Talks NBA Summer League

ORLANDO, FL -

The battle to make the Boston Celtics roster is on for NBA draft pick and Yankton-native Colton Iverson. The 7-footer has played four Summer League games so far with the team in Orlando and in limited minutes is giving his best effort. With one more game to go, he's averaging 3-point-3 points per game to go along with 5-point-3 rebounds.

With the NBA Summer League in full swing, the race is on to impress coaches and build chemistry with teammates. For Colton Iverson, he plans to accomplish both the same way he always has, with hard work.

"When I'm out on the floor I'm just trying to do as much as I can, play as hard as I can. You're not always going to get the most minutes and everything. Just go out there and rebound, play defense and do whatever you can do to help the team win," Iverson said.

Iverson has started two games in Orlando and while he enjoys getting to know his fellow Celtics, there's one player he really enjoys.

"Definitely Kelly Olynyk. He's a great player and I think we play really well together. We're the same size but we're two different positions. He's more of a 4-man, face up shooter. He's a lot of fun to play with because he takes all of the attention on defense," Iverson said.

Olynyk was Boston's first round pick this season. He, like Iverson and the rest of the Celtics organization for that matter, are getting better acquainted with the team's new head coach. Brad Stevens was hired last week. While he's making the transition from college to the pro game, Iverson has a lot of faith in his new leader.

"He came down to Orlando. I went up to his hotel room. We had a little 20-minute meeting and I'm very excited for the opportunity to play for him. He's a great coach obviously. Took a Butler team to back-to-back National Championship games. That's pretty impressive. I know he's a genius when it comes to the game of basketball. So I'm very excited for the opportunity to play for him," Iverson said.

The Celtics final Summer League game in Orlando is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. Central Time.
