COLUMBUS, Indiana ? A century-old Columbus church could find a new use if business, government and nonprofit leaders can find a way to pay for needed repairs.
The St. Bartholomew Church was dedicated in 1891 but hasn't been used in a decade. Its red-brick facade is deteriorating and the interior needs work.
Developer Jeff Bush tells The Republic (http://bit.ly/1agK94q ) he and Rick Sprague bought the building in 2011 to ensure the sanctuary wasn't demolished.
Bush says renovating the structure to make it usable would require a "significant" investment because maintenance has been deferred for years.
Ideas for the property so far include an arts center, international center and community welcoming center.
Bush says the building's future will depend on securing financing and coming up with a plan to cover operating expenses.
