Northern California bicyclist arrested on DUI after pedestrian injured

TRUCKEE -- A 24-year-old bicyclist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after striking and critically injuring a pedestrian in the Sierra Nevada town of Truckee.

Police say 24-year-old Petra Bakker-Borhani of Truckee was riding her bicycle on a road along Donner Lake when the accident occurred shortly before the lake's fireworks show Thursday night.

The adult male pedestrian was flown to a Reno hospital, where he was listed in critical condition with head injuries. His name was not immediately released.

Police say Bakker-Borhani was arrested at the scene and booked into the Nevada County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The 9:30 p.m. accident is under investigation.
