Many people enjoy having barbeques for their friends and family in the summer. Having a barbeque requires more time and preparation than most people thinks, but there are a number of things you can do to make it more pleasant. There are several things that you can do before throwing a barbeque or any other event outdoors during the summertime.

Preparing for a Barbeque

You can throw the perfect get-together with your friends and family if you prepare for it ahead of time. Here are some tips to help you make the experience more special.

Decide Who You Want to Attend

You will need to decide who you want to invite before planning your barbeque. Make a list of the people you want to attend and send out invitations accordingly. Ask your friends to confirm whether they will be attending so you can have a head count. This will make it easier for you to plan the rest of the event.

Decide What You Need

You will need to make a checklist of accessories that you will need before throwing a barbeque. Some of the things you will need include:

  • A functioning grill (obviously!)
  • Tables, tablecloths, chairs and other furnishings for your guest
  • Food and drinks you will be serving
  • Paper dishes and silverware
  • Pitchers
  • Ice and an ice bucket
  • Toys for any kids

You will need to think about what your guests will want before making your list.

Create a Menu

Take a look at the people who are going to be attending your event and create a menu that will cater to everyones tastes. It is a good idea to ask for feedback from everyone beforehand. You should also ask if anyone is following a vegan, paleo or other restrictive diet. They can give you some feedback on what types of foods they will want.

Decide What Your Guests Should Bring

Most people try to make their barbeques potlucks. You should decide whether you want your guests to bring anything. Make a list of what everyone plans to bring and ask people to make substitutes if there are any duplicates.

You dont need to limit your requests to food. Feel free to ask them to bring chairs or other furniture if you dont have any on hand.

Come Up With Some Activities for Your Guests

You will want to have some activities in mind for your guests. You will want to keep the demographics and interests of your guests in mind before planning the entertainment. Planning a game of beer pong or flip cup may be fine if most of your guests are going to be young adults. However, you will want to come up with other ideas if most of them will be older or children will be attending. Horseshoes, badminton and volleyball are usually safe ideas that everyone can enjoy.

Try to Prepare Before the Event

You will want to get as much prep work done as possible before the event. That will let you sit in your chair and take a load off the next day. However, you shouldnt cut up any perishables more than a couple days ahead of time.
