Ah, the ?One that Got away. We?ve all been there guys, losing some girl we really cared for. There?s any number of reasons this could happen, from fights that weren?t resolved, to disagreements over money or jobs, to simply drifting apart over time. For whatever reason, we sometimes find ourselves looking back at our lives and our past relationships, realizing that we want to reconnect with one of our former love. If you?re in that boat, there are a few suggestions to keep in mind as you attempt to win back your lost love.
First, you?ll need to find them again. Depending on how long ago you last spoke with ?The One?, you might have lost track of them. If that?s the case, you?ll need to do a little bit of work in order to rediscover them. Luckily, with the progress of technology, it?s gotten easier than ever to do so. Checking out social networking sites to see if your lost love has joined, contact old friends to see if you can locate someone who knows how to find her, and see if any of your old ways of getting in touch (phone numbers, email addresses, etc.) still work.
Then, make contact again. If you?ve only been broken up a short period of time, this could be as simple as making a phone call or sending out a quick email message. For longer break up periods, you?ll need to spend more time reconnecting. Start by reminding your former love of the connection you had, reminding her of the good times you had together, and learning about what she?s done with her life since you last spoke. (Finding out if she?s currently unattached will definitely be a good thing, in light of your goal of getting back together.)
Once you?ve broken the ice, it?s time to get to the heart of the matter: explaining your feelings, and justifying getting back together. It?s going to be tempting to take things slowly, to dance around the subject of why you decided to reach out to her, but all that?s going to do is drag things out and make the girl you?re trying to win back suspicious of your motives, which is the last thing you want if you hope to reclaim her heart. Instead, be open, be direct, and come right out with your hopes of getting back together.
Finally, work out any issues that still remain between you and your lost love. While it?s possible that your relationship simply fell apart because of growing physical or emotional distance between you and your ex-girlfriend, there might have been other reasons leading to the break up. If so, you?ll need to work them out in order to truly reconnect with your lost love. Depending on how your relationship ended, this could take quite a bit of effort on your part, but if she really is the one for you, it should be worth it.
There you have it. If you follow these simple steps, you should have no problems in ensuring that ?The one Who Got Away? becomes the ?The one Who?s here to Stay?. (Although, you might not want to call her that to her face; it?s a little bit dorky.)
