Nevada (US), July 18 (ANI): Lisa Burke, designer-owner of Lisa Blue Swimwear, whose Lakshmi swimwear upset Hindus worldwide in May, reportedly says that she has learned a lesson.

Burke was quoted in Australian media as saying that she had learned a lot from the Lakshmi experience. "It was a lesson to me to be super-sensitive and careful of other cultures," she added.

She reportedly participated and displayed bikinis created by her at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami (USA) on July 17, incorporating aboriginal artwork from South Australian mining tribe and brought an aboriginal model to model her ware.

Esteemed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Monday, pointed out that Burke learning a lesson was "a step in the right direction". Inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees.

Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, argued.

Hindus were upset at the depiction of the image of Goddess Lakshmi on swimwear reportedly created by Burke and displayed at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW) held in Sydney (Australia) from May 2-6, which they termed repugnant. She later apologized and said that the image of Goddess Lakshmi would not appear on any piece of Lisa Blue swimwear.

Lisa Blue Swimwear, headquartered in Byron Bay (Australia), claims to represent "the girl of the future who can be sexy, beautiful, powerful and environmentally aware at the same time". Besides Australia and an online presence, it has stockists in USA, Ireland, New Zealand, and Indonesia. (ANI)
