Editorial: On Gaming Communities | Lusipurr.com
Hello, readers! This week, I reluctantly break from playing Final Fantasy XII to bring you more insight into the gaming world. In an unusual fit of introspection, I have decided to explore my roots within video gaming. To begin, I would like to discuss a few online gaming communities and why it is that I found myself drawn into them. The first of these communities is our beloved Lusipurr.com. I will revisit Lusipurr.com in more detail soon, but I will for now say that the biggest initial attraction of Lusipurr.com for me was the site?s sense of humor and the hilarity of the old, entirely not safe for work Megaphones Ahoy! podcasts. The humorous take on the gaming industry sucked me into Lusipurr.com, and I regretfully must inform our readership that I intend to remain with this site for as long as I possibly can.

Many of our readers and staff members by now know that I am a member of the Backloggery community. For those not in the know, Backloggery is a website devoted to the organization of gaming backlogs wherein members list games along with their completion statuses in the eventual and usually vain hope of one day finishing all of the games on the list. Backloggery has a surprisingly close-knit community of like-minded gamers working towards a common goal. From the Final Fantasy XI linkshell to the weekly live streaming, Backloggery has simultaneously created an organizational tool and a community. Like so many other members of the site, I came for the game listing and stayed for the camaraderie. The Backloggery community has uniquely created a place where gamers bond over almost nothing at all; many of the people in my friends list are people with whom I have only shared brief conversations about their or my banner and avatar. In seeking a way to keep track of my ever-increasing game library, I inadvertently stumbled and bumbled into one of the kindest and surprisingly close gaming communities it has ever been my pleasure to be a part of.
Stepping away from Backloggery?s close-knit community, I now move on to discuss a much larger and less friendly gaming community: GameFAQs. Though not as active as I once was, I am a long-time member of GameFAQs; I have been using the site for gaming help since probably around 2002 and finally joined the community in August of 2005. The GameFAQs community is certainly a grand bunch of misfits, with a staggering number of message boards, both gaming and non-gaming. What continues to draw me to the GameFAQs community is its size: the message boards are populated by people from all over the world, with all sorts of interests. Despite its massive size, GameFAQs does keep some sense of community and camaraderie, as the website is made up almost entirely of gamers. The GameFAQs community is, to me, the forgotten old friend. Every so often I find myself compelled to return to some of my old haunts to remember what it is that drew me into the GameFAQs community and into gaming fandom as a whole.
The eternal enemy of the enterprising backlogger.
Finally, I return to my original discussion of Lusipurr.com. Aside from the site?s humor, the primary draw of Lusipurr.com has to be the readership and staff. Another staff member once admitted that despite the fact that most of us have never met in real life, there is an intense and close friendship among the staff and readers of Lusipurr.com. I would like to echo that sentiment and add my own thoughts on the matter. On most websites I have visited, the site staff is an aloof standalone entity, and I always have felt awkward trying to communicate with them. Lusipurr.com avoids this; staff and readers have always communicated as equals with little to no awkwardness. The closeness of our little gaming community is what has kept me coming back to Lusipurr.com. Despite the fact that I have never met most of them in real life, I still feel that I am very close friends with the staff and readers here onsite.
Well, I have briefly shared my experiences with a few gaming communities and why I am glad to be a part of them. What about you, readers? What gaming communities are you a part of and why? Winehouse family, friends attend singer's funeral (AP)
LONDON ? Wearing dark suits, black dresses and the occasional beehive hairdo, friends and family said goodbye to Amy Winehouse Tuesday with prayers, tears, laughter and song at an emotional funeral ceremony.
The singer's father, mother and brother were joined by Winehouse's close friends, band members and celebrities including producer Mark Ronson for the service at Edgwarebury Cemetery in north London. Media personality Kelly Osbourne was one of several women to wear her hair piled beehive-high in an echo of the singer's trademark style.
Fans and photographers thronged the lane outside, but the funeral was for several hundred friends and family only.
The Jewish service was led by a rabbi and included prayers in English and Hebrew and reminiscences from Winehouse's father, Mitch Winehouse. The cab driver and jazz singer, who helped foster his daughter's love of music, ended his eulogy with the words "Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much."
It ended with a rendition of Carole King's "So Far Away," one of Winehouse's favorite songs.
"Mitch was funny, he told some great stories from childhood about how headstrong she was, and clearly the family and friends recognized the stories and laughed along," said family spokesman Chris Goodman.
"He stressed so many times she was happier now than she had ever been and he spoke about her boyfriend and paid tribute to a lot of people in her life."
According to the Press Association news agency, Mitch Winehouse said during the ceremony that his daughter was trying to overcome her addictions, having told him: "Dad I've had enough, I can't stand the look on your and the family's faces anymore."
He said he planned to set up a foundation in his daughter's name to help people struggling with addiction.
"Knowing she wasn't depressed ... knowing she passed away happy, it makes us all feel better," he said.
Family friend Alfie Ezekiel, 55, said the service had been a "joyful" celebration of the singer's life.
"Mitch gave a very good eulogy and he managed to get through it very well, considering," he said.
Close family and friends ? including Winehouse's recent boyfriend, Reg Traviss ? moved on to Golders Green Crematorium, where the singer was cremated.
Several mourners, including Ronson ? who co-produced Winehouse's breakthrough album "Back to Black" ? looked emotional as they left the red brick structure, which has seen the cremations of thousands of ordinary Londoners and many celebrities, including psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, comedian Peter Sellers and drummer Keith Moon of The Who.
The family was then due to hold two days of shiva, a Jewish traditional period of mourning.
The soul diva, who had battled alcohol and drug addiction, was found dead Saturday at her London home. She was 27.
An autopsy held Monday failed to determine what caused her death. Police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which will take two to four weeks.
On Monday the singer's father, mother and brother visited the house where she died, thanking mourners who had left flowers and cards.
Mitch Winehouse said "Amy was about one thing and that was love."
"Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends and to you guys as well," he told fans.
Winehouse released only two albums in her short career ? winning five Grammy awards for "Back to Black" ? and often made headlines because of drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, destructive relationships and abortive performances.
Since her death, her records have re-entered album charts around the world, and tributes have poured in from fans and fellow musicians.
George Michael called her "the most soulful vocalist this country has ever seen," and soul singer Adele said she "paved the way for artists like me and made people excited about British music again."

Obama seeks "Plan B" as debt plans stall (Reuters)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? A Republican plan to cut the U.S. deficit faced delay and stiff opposition on Wednesday, raising the risk of default and a ratings downgrade as the clock ticks toward a deadline less than a week away.
Deeply divided Republican and Democratic leaders are scrambling to find common ground before August 2, when the government is expected to hit its $14.3 trillion borrowing limit that could trigger a default and roil world markets.
Even if that fate is avoided, a budget plan that flinches from hefty cuts in the deficit could result in a downgrade of America's top-notch credit rating, raising borrowing costs and dealing a severe blow to the country's weak economic recovery.
After weeks of acrimonious debate, the contours of a possible deal have emerged but Republicans and Democrats are digging their heels in on some key demands and blaming each other for putting politics ahead of the national interest.
Lawmakers need to carve out a budget plan to clear the way for Congress to raise the borrowing limit.
The chances of a quick resolution receded after a vote on a deficit plan by the top Republican in Congress was pushed back to Thursday from Wednesday.
Republican Speaker John Boehner rushed to rework his bill after an analysis found it would cut spending by $350 billion less than the $1.2 trillion over 10 years he had claimed.
President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the Boehner plan and top Senate Democrat Harry Reid described it as "dead on arrival."
The plan has also failed to win the backing of conservative Tea Party Republicans, who have steadfastly refused to back tax rises and want much heavier cuts to social programs that are traditionally protected by Obama's Democrats.
The White House said on Tuesday it was working with Congress to craft an unspecified "Plan B," providing a glimmer of hope that an 11th-hour deal could be reached as lawmakers feel the pressure from increasingly anxious financial markets.
The gridlock dragged global stocks down on Wednesday, particularly in Europe. Worried investors shifted funds into traditional safe havens gold and the Swiss franc, which both rose to record highs in dollar terms.
The cost of insuring against a U.S. debt default in the next year increased to a record high.
Still, there have been no signs of panic in markets because most investors expect a deal will be struck by the deadline.
"The market is expecting both sides to take it to the edge, to push it as long as possible given the politics and given the cost to any side which backs down and loses one of its core interests too early on," said Stephen Green, head of research for Greater China at Standard Chartered Bank.
However, the bank's Chinese clients take a more pessimistic view on America's longer-term fiscal health, Green said.
"Many of them look at the politics in the U.S. and see that it's so dysfunctional that they're losing hope that the U.S. can actually get its fiscal house in order," he told Reuters.
Failure to reach a deal would have major implications. A Japan central bank policymaker warned a U.S. default or a ratings downgrade would be felt well beyond the United States.
"As the world's biggest economy, the U.S. would have an immeasurable impact on global financial markets and Japan would not escape the damage," said Hidetoshi Kamezaki, a board member of the Bank of Japan.
France's budget minister, Valerie Pecresse, urged Washington to come to an agreement.
"The global economy needs an American agreement," the minister said.
"WRAPPED UP IN A BOW"
Americans also are overwhelmingly concerned about the crisis, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed. A majority of 56 percent support a mixture of tax increases and spending cuts that Obama has advocated and Republicans have dismissed.
Despite their differences -- sharpened by the looming presidential and congressional elections in November 2012 -- there is common ground between Boehner's bill and a rival plan by Reid that calls for a $2.7 trillion deficit reduction over the next decade.
Reid said he could not understand why Republicans did not support the plan he presented since it does not raise taxes and the spending cuts in the proposal have been endorsed by them.
"It's everything Republicans have demanded wrapped up in a bow and delivered to their door," he said.
Obama has said he cannot accept Boehner's two-step deficit plan because it extends the Treasury's borrowing authority only until early next year, risking a rerun of the debt impasse during the election campaign.
Obama, who will run for a second term, has backed Reid's one-step plan, which has a hike to the $14.3 trillion debt limit that would carry through the elections.
Neither plan goes far enough with deficit cuts to guarantee the U.S. sovereign credit rating will not be downgraded, an action that would dent the global safe-haven status of the dollar and Treasury bonds.
All three big credit-rating agencies have warned the United States needs to come up with a credible deficit plan to keep its top AAA rating in the long term.
Executives from Standard and Poor's and Moody's Investors Service are due to appear before a congressional panel on Wednesday, where they will face scrutiny over their views on the debt ceiling debate.
Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner have stressed the government will run out of room to borrow funds on August 2, next Tuesday.
But Treasury officials have never said when the government will exhaust its funds to pay the nation's bills and the consensus among Wall Street analysts is that the cash will not run out until about two weeks later than that.

Full Details
House is two stories out in the woods with a picket fence. There seems to be little to no security measures. Two people live there, the hit and their female partner.
Evidence
Not only did Paper Roll hand over a wad of cash casually, they can afford paying someone to build their house in the middle of the woods. Looking through the details they had to have spent some serious cash on the land. Or... the government here is lax. Either way. However, they might have it all in the bank, in which case we're wasting our time. Either way, the job doesn't look hard so the risk-reward is worth it.
Surveillance
Unless Tom can find a nice tree to climb, Razzy's going to have to run around as an animal or something to try to keep an eye on the place.
Conversation Log
Vince: Alright gentleman and lady, she's seen all of us except Tom. That means we can manage one inconspicuous person, maybe two if she doesn't recognise Razzy. The house is a nice place out in the woods. The hit lives there with their girlfriend-
Tom: Lesbians? Awesome.
Vince: Shut up Tom. It's impossible to get close to the place without looking obvious, so Razzy has to be a dog or some sort of forest creature to get close. That sound do-able?
Razzy: I can't do small things. Maybe a deer? I could do that.
Vince: Be careful though. Don't appear as something appealing. She had fangs, so... maybe.
Tom: She's a vamp?
Vince: Maybe. Can't say for sure. She could just be a werewolf. Either way, we're not going to do this job until she's out of the house.
Raikov: I'll get my things.
Vince: Shouldn't be a problem comrade. We just need to get inside and find out if they have any money. If they do, then we take it. Otherwise, no need for explosives, no need for violence. I don't want anybody dead. While its easy to hide them in the woods, we're already bankrupting them, and they're not corrupt or an asshole.
Tom: You flirted with them, didn't you.
Vince: Shut up Tom.
Razzy: Hold on, I could probably come in as a flying animal of some sort, get in through the top floor and make my way downstairs. If she sleeps I'll be able to get past without being noticed, yeah?
Vince: That sounds like a plan. Ziek, anything to add?
Ziek: Negative. This is a school job. What tech could I possibly provide?
Vince: Yeah... alright. Is everyone clear on what needs to be done?
Tom: Let Razzy do all the work?
Vince: Right. Let's go.

I don?t jump every time a ?new? marketing idea comes out, because it?s easy to spend all day consuming the latest information and doing nothing (I try to save that for Saturdays).? But as the video marketing buzz continues, the training to go with it expands, and the new products to help you make it happen multiply, it?s occurring to me that video marketing isn?t all that ?new.?? It?s what we see on television everyday.
America loves TV and that seems to translate into online video. Whether on TV or online, it?s all about a camera, a story and an audience.? On TV the money is made in the advertising. Online it is made in the connection.? On TV the audience has to have so many impressions before they really ?see? your brand and decide to buy.? That?s true online as well, but different because connections can be made faster (much faster).
Statistics on Video Marketing
If you?re wondering, like I was, whether video marketing is really that important, consider these findings from the comScore May 2011 U.S. Online Video Rankings:
- 83.3 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed online video in May.
- That?s more than 5.6 billion viewing sessions during the course of the month?
- and 176 million U.S. Internet users watching online video content in May?
- which averages out to 15.9 hours of online video watching per person.
That?s a lot of numbers, but what stood out to me is one simple reality: I?m one of the 83.3 percent who watches online video. And I saw my 15.9 hours worth of online video (in one month).
If I don?t know how to do something, I will watch a video or three to learn.? Do you do that?? How many people do you know who do the same?? And how can you use that awareness to impact your business?
This type of marketing deserves a thought.

Short videos can get the job done.? According to comScore?s findings, the average online content video was 5.2 minutes. ?The ads averaged 0.4 minutes.

Elmer's Craft Camp Giveaway :

Each Wednesday night at church I lead our Girl?s Ministries. Currently I teach the middle school class but last week we mixed it up a bit. Last week I joined the 1st-4th grade girls for a craft project sponsored by Elmer?s! A few weeks earlier I had received this awesome wooden box that contained one adult kit and 5 kids kits and a Walmart gift card to purchase additional supplies.
I searched the craft ideas at Elmers.com?but I didn?t find anything that struck my fancy so I reverted to my crafting love?scrapbooking. Though I haven?t actively scrapped for about 5 years I love the process of creatively capturing our family memories. So last week the girls created memory folders out of Elmer?s Mini Bi-Fold Foam Boards.

Each girl chose their color scheme and embellishments and myself, Miss Kim and our helper Colleen assisted the girls as needed.

Mitt Romney says Obama's policies hurt economy (Reuters)
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took aim at President Barack Obama's economic leadership on Wednesday, saying the Democrat's policies were hurting, not helping, the U.S. economy.
"The president's policies almost without question have caused this recession to be deeper and longer than it would have been and have made this recovery more anemic than it should have been," Romney said at a campaign stop in a run-down North Hollywood community.
The former Massachusetts governor assailed Obama's handling of the economy, speaking against the backdrop of a foreclosed strip mall with mostly empty buildings and boarded-up windows.
Saying the mall had been "scrapped in part because of challenges of the economy," Romney accused Obama of being too distracted by other matters to focus on reviving the struggling economy and vowed that would be his highest priority if he is elected president.
Last month, the Republican White House hopeful took his campaign to a shuttered plant in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he accused Obama of failing to understand how to fix the economy and create jobs.
The early front-runner in the field of candidates competing for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, Romney has zeroed in on the two issues seen as key vulnerabilities in Obama's effort to win a second-term -- the sluggish economy and the 9.2 percent jobless rate.
"Some years ago just weeks after he (Obama) was inaugurated he went on the 'Today Show' and he said 'look if I can't turn this economy around in three years, I'm looking at a one-term proposition,' and I'm here to collect," Romney said, drawing cheers from about 40 supporters.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat, pre-empted Romney's campaign event with a dim assessment of the former governor's economic record.
In a conference call with reporters, Villaraigosa said Massachusetts ranked 47th out of the 50 states in job creation under Romney's governorship and had skyrocketing home foreclosures.
"Romney using LA - and I emphasis using LA - to blast Obama's economic policies is appalling," Villaraigosa said.
Tim Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor who is behind most of his Republican rivals in polls, has also criticized Romney's jobs record as Massachusetts governor and his support for a state healthcare overhaul that was a model for Obama's federal law.
Asked about criticism from fellow Republicans, Romney would not be drawn into the intraparty rivalry saying only that he was campaigning against Obama.

However, be aware of the type of manager you are, and you do want to stay away from being over-bearing or interfering. Controlling people have some amount of fear of the unknown and have to keep everything totally predictable. Using self improvement as a means of greater success in business is simply a smart approach. Also, it is important and interesting to note that very many business owners avoid doing it. The wise, successful business man or woman is the one who knows instinctively that if they work to improve themselves, their business will also grow and be more successful. There are those who become successful who don?t worry about improving themselves, but they are the exception rather than the rule.
