I have lost power to the electrical recepticle in my bathroom in my apartment.
There is a switch box next to the door with two switches, one for lights and one for overhead exhaust fan. On the same wall, 2 1/2 feet away from the switch bax is a duplex receptacle. That receptacle lost electrical power.
I am not a licensed electrician but I have had much experience with wiring, having worked as a theatrical stage electrician, installed all the wiring in a new 5 bedroom home I built, and performed numerous home electrical installations and repairs.
I opened the switch box and found four wires coming into the switch box - 1. the main power wire; 2. the wire running from switch to lights; 3. the wire running from switch to fan; and 4. a wire running, I assume, to the receptacle. The wires appear to be in good condition, none frayed, and all securely twisted together and capped where the separate bundle of hot wires are connected together and where the second second bundle of the return white wires are bound together. I located the main line, which is properly connected to the two switches with both the lights switch and fan switch properly connected and operative. The main line is also bundled with the fourth wire. All the black wires are hot, however no power is getting to the receptacle.
There has been no construction or disturbance to the wall area between the switch box and the receptacle - no sign of nails on either side of the plaster board walls.
How do I approach this problem?
