FEMA: Hurricane Irene Flood Insurance Claims Hotline Closes Soon

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Hurricane Irene survivors with questions about flood insurance claims have a few more days to call a toll-free hotline.

The Hurricane Irene Flood Insurance Claims Hotline will cease operation at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 23. The hotline number is 855-336-2002. After the hotline closes, National Flood Insurance Program policy holders should call their insurance agent or carrier if they have questions about
their claim.

The hotline is staffed by flood insurance specialists from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed Sunday). Specialists answer questions about the flood insurance claim process, such as how to work with a flood insurance adjuster or how to check on the status of a settlement. Staffers can take requests for reinspection and offer guidance on the steps necessary to settle a claim.

When flood insurance policy holders call, they should have on hand the following information:

• Name of insurance company
• Flood insurance policy number
• Name and telephone number of the insurance agent
• Name and telephone number of the insurance adjuster

FEMA?s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
