While there are many frivolous expenditures, the following is one of the outrageous:

Outdoor Escape, Inc. (77476)? http://prodnet.houstonisd.org/CROSE/checkRegister.aspx
This company builds rock-climbing walls; HISD paid them $93,204.00 from 2009 ? March, 2011
3/9/11 ? ?? $3,000.00
6/28/10??? $67,500.00
6/8/10 ? ? $4,800.00
4/16/10 ?? $600.00
4/1/10????? $515.00
3/10/10??? $1,000.00
2/26/10??? $350.00
8/4/09 ???? $13,500.00
6/2/09???? $637.50
4/1/09???? $1,302.00

Below is an article RE at least one of HISD?s schools which was the recipient of one of these rock climbing walls.? According to the article, ?Some of the local colleges have rock walls and we wanted our kids to have the same experience to fit into the college culture early.?

Think of how many teachers? salaries this would have paid for!

Students at C?sar Ch?vez High School are building their bodies and minds with a new, state-of-the-art rock wall in the school?s gymnasium that took over a month to build.

The rock wall was unveiled on October 3, right after a celebratory partnership breakfast.

Ch?vez High School is the first HISD campus to construct a rock wall. It was built to emphasize to the students and the community that healthy bodies and lifestyles help promote strong, healthy minds, and it will be used for team-building exercises by student sports and academic groups and for physical education.

?This climbing wall will be one more way in which Ch?vez students will have to exercise their bodies and learn lifelong sports,? said Principal Dan DeLe?n. ?Our primary goal is education?and this rock wall, along with all the other opportunities that we have for students?will help us keep students engaged in the learning process. Some of the local colleges have rock walls and we wanted our kids to have the same experience to fit into the college culture early.?

The partnership breakfast is a yearly event used to thank and inform the members of the community and local businesses, who actively support Ch?vez High School in many different ways.
