A man was shot multiple times while sitting behind a vacant house in Metairie Wednesday night. The victim, 22, was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to Glen T. Boyd, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The shooting occurred just before midnight at a residence in the 3100 block of Claiborne Avenue in Metairie. The victim told investigators he and a friend were talking in the vacant home's backyard, as they often do, Boyd said.
Just after the friend got up to leave, both men reported hearing gunshots coming from a nearby wooded area. "The victim didn't see the person or persons who shot him," Boyd said.
The victim called 911, and deputies found him lying in the house's backyard. He had been shot five times with wounds to his hips, thighs and side. The victim also had a graze wound on his forearm.
Deputies questioned the friend, who returned to the backyard when he heard the gunshots. But investigators have no suspects or a motive in the shooting.
